The Stonewall community is a gender inclusive housing community specifically geared toward students of all sexual orientations, genders, gender identities, and gender expressions who want to live in a community celebrating their various identities and foster understanding, learning, and community.

More Information

  • Located in the Austin Residence Complex, Stonewall Housing is a gender-inclusive, LGBTQ themed housing community at KSU. Stonewall is available for all students who want to live in a community celebrating their various identities and foster understanding, learning, and community around topics of sexuality and gender.

    The Stonewall community thrives on developing academically successful students, inclusive of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and/or expression.

    By joining a community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, gender non-conforming, and ally students, residents will be expected to respect the commonalities and differences of the residents.

  • To apply to live in the Stonewall Housing Community please indicate your interest on the 'Preference Page' of the application in the Housing Portal.

    Requests to live in Stonewall Housing must be made through the Housing application process.

    For questions related to the application portal, please email: livinglearning@kennesaw.edu or call 470-578-5483 from 6-8pm.

    When the housing application is live (see dates  below), students will complete a Living-Learning Community preference page to indicate their interest participating in Living-Learning Communities (LLCs). These preferences will be sent to our LLC campus partners (e.g. – LGBTQ Student Programs) to determine eligibility. Students participating in LLCs will receive their housing assignments before students who are not participating in LLCs.

  • New, Incoming Students (First-Year and Transfer):

    • Housing application portal opens for new, incoming students (first-year and transfer) Monday, February 5th at 6:00 p.m.
      • The priority deadline for new students to apply for Stonewall Housing is March 18th.
      • Students who apply by March 18th will receive their housing assignments by April 16th.
      • The final deadline to apply for Stonewall Housing is April 18th.
      • Students who apply after March 18th and before April 18th will receive their housing assignments by April 30th.

    Current, New Stonewall Housing Residents:

    Current, returning KSU students who are not currently a resident of Stonewall Housing:

    • Housing Application Portal opens for current, returning students Monday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m.
    • Final deadline for returning students to apply for Stonewall Housing is March 7th.
    • Students approved for Stonewall Housing will receive their housing assignments on March 12th.

    Returning Stonewall Housing Residents (Same Bed Renewals):

    • Housing Application Portal opens for current, returning students Monday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m.
    • Same bed renewals are open 2/19/18 - 3/2/18, pending approval/eligibility from the LGBTQ Resource Center.
    • Current Stonewall Residents for 2017-2018 received an email with a form link to indicate their intention to renew within Stonewall Housing.
    • Final deadline for returning students to apply for Stonewall Housing is March 7th.
    • Students approved for Stonewall Housing will receive their housing assignments on March 12th.

     

  • Housing rates for Stonewall Housing are established by Housing and Residence Life. For the most current pricing structures, please visit Housing and Residence Life's Housing Rates page.

    To assist in determining which pricing structure applies: Stonewall Housing is in Austin Residence Complex Phase 1 and all apartments are 4 bedroom/4 bathroom.

  • First-year Stonewall Residents are strongly encouraged to enroll in the LGBTQ First-Year Learning Community (LGBTQ LC). The LGBTQ LC offers residents an opportunity to engage with KSU's LGBTQ community in meaningful ways while navigating the transition from high to college. Stonewall Housing FAQs

  • Because the Stonewall Housing Community is gender inclusive, rooms will not be assigned based on a persons gender, gender identity, or gender expression. This means that residents of the community may have roommates that identify as a different gender than themselves.

  • Stonewall Housing is located in the Austin Residence Complex, Phase 1.

  • Yes, Stonewall Housing falls under the 12-month contract distinction established by Housing and Residence Life.
  • No. The apartments within Stonewall Housing feature a private bedroom and private bathroom, with a shared common area (living room) and kitchen. For floorplans and details, visit Housing and Residence Life.
  • Most likely. Prospective Stonewall Residents can indicate a roommate request in a form that will be sent to them after they have expressed interest in Stonewall Housing on the Housing Application Portal's Preference Page. Each roommate will need to indicate one another in this form in order for us to try and accommodate the request. LGBTQ Student Programs strives to meet each request to the best of our ability, but approvals are dependent on room availability and mutual requests.
  • In addition to all requirements established by Housing and Residence Life, LGBTQ Student Programs requires that each applicant demonstrate a sincere desire to live in an LGBTQ-affirming housing community. This is accomplished via short essay questions in the application form that is sent out to prospective residents after they have expressed interest in Stonewall Housing on the Housing Application Portal's Preference Page.
  • For the 2018-2019 academic year, Stonewall Housing has been approved for 40 rooms/beds in the community. The number of rooms available can fluctuate from year to year based on the number of vacant rooms and student demand.
  • Yes. Although Stonewall Housing is located in 'Upperclass Student Housing,' Stonewall Housing is open to all incoming and current students at KSU. The only eligibility criteria, outside those established by Housing and Residence Life, is that students must demonstrate a sincere desire to live in an LGBTQ-affirming housing community.

    Additionally, first-year students living in Stonewall are strongly encouraged to enroll in the LGBTQ First-Year Learning Community.

  • At this time (Fall 2018), no. However, first-year Stonewall Residents are strongly encouraged to enroll in the LGBTQ First-Year Learning Community. For more information, please visit our LGBTQ First-Year Learning Community page. This requirement may change in the future.
